SLP 5213 Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC)

The focus of this course is to provide an overview of AAC types, the continuum of AAC language and systems, use strategies, and an overview of evaluation and intervention approaches with AAC.  Students will identify potential candidates for AAC, etiologies that use AAC, practice implementation of a communication system or device, and review issues of funding and advocacy.  Students will complete a case study providing intervention strategies for individuals requiring AAC.
