Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology (71 Hrs.)
Trine University Surgical Technology Program will prepare practitioners who ensure excellence in the efficiency, quality, and safety of perioperative patient care. In the operating room, surgical technologists work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other personnel to provide direct patient care. Surgical technologists are experts in sterile technique, combining knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and medical tools and technologies to effectively assist physicians as they perform invasive procedures.

Mission
The mission of Trine University Surgical Technology Program is to provide excellence in didactic and clinical instruction that will enable individuals to perform as competent, entry-level Surgical Technologists to meet the needs of the local and regional communities.
Outcomes
At the conclusion of the program, students will be able to:
Cognitive Domain
- Apply foundational principles from the healthcare sciences during patient-focused events in surgical settings.
- Prepare a plan for national certification and ongoing professional development.
Psychomotor Domain
- Perform safe and effective perioperative care utilizing basic surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Adapt appropriately to changes in the surgical environment using critical thinking and problem-solving techniques.
Affective Domain
- Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team in the provision of care to patients in various surgical environments.
- Display legal, ethical, and professional behavior as identified in the Association of Surgical Technologists Code of Ethics.
