BIO 392 Aquatic Biology

An introduction to organisms and processes in the aquatic environments, including function, biodiversity, and ecology of organisms. Topics include: the chemical and physical environment; the ecology of pelagic and benthic organisms, including those from lentic and lotic systems, benthic plants and phytoplankton; zooplankton; invertebrates, fishes; productivity and fisheries; freshwater pollution and conservation. The course will also include application of identification, sampling and analytical techniques to aquatic organisms and their habitats of local lakes and streams, and several required field trips. Prerequisite: BIO 274
