Fall 2025 Trine Course Catalog

Certificates

Credit-Bearing Certificates

At Trine University, credit-bearing certificates recognize a student's accomplishment in a specialized area of knowledge. Certificate programs are available to all students but can only be pursued in conjunction with a major and/or minor that differs from the certificate program. For instance, an accounting major would not be eligible for an accounting certificate.

Undergraduate credit-bearing certificates require a minimum of 16 credit hours, while graduate credit-bearing certificates require a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Undergraduate certificates are currently only available to students enrolled in the College of Graduate and Professional Studies unless specifically noted in the certificate description.

Admission of Students

Matriculated, degree-seeking students are required to declare their intention to earn a certificate by consulting with their advisor and submitting the "Certificate Intent Declaration Form."  Current students must be in good academic standing to pursue a certificate program. Prospective students who are interested in obtaining a credit-bearing certificate must satisfy the university admission requirements for the appropriate level and program of study.

Course Credit, Transfer, and Substitution

Course substitutions and transfer credit are not permitted unless specifically noted in the certificate description.

Certificate Completion

The chair or director of the program for which the student is assigned will verify the completion of all requirements necessary to earn the certificate.  The chair or director will provide the students’ information to the Office of the Registrar for final verification.

Attaining a Trine University cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required in the undergraduate certificate courses, while a 3.0 cumulative GPA is a requirement in the graduate certificate courses.

The official certificate will be mailed directly to students.  A transcript of the credential will be available.  Students only earning certificates are not eligible to attend commencement programs.
