Fall 2025 Trine Course Catalog

Graduate Programs - College of Graduate and Professional Studies

Probation Policy

The College of Graduate and Professional Studies (CGPS) students in master’s programs must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (CGPA). Graduate students whose CGPA falls between 2.7 and 2.99 will be placed on academic probation and notified accordingly.

Academic probation is permitted only once. Graduate students on probation must achieve a 3.0 CGPA by the end of the following semester to remain in good standing. Failure to do so will result in being dismissed without ability to reapply.

International students on academic probation with a CGPA below 3.0 are ineligible for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) during their probation semester. Eligibility for CPT is restored upon achieving a CGPA of 3.0 or higher and returning to good academic standing by the end of their next semester.

Dismissal Policy

Students whose CGPA falls below 2.7 will be dismissed from Trine University without the ability to reapply if their CGPA is below 2.0.

Those students between a 2.0 and 2.69 are eligible for readmission, unless admitted conditionally. A student who is academically dismissed but is eligible for readmission may apply for readmission immediately by completing the Trine University Graduate Readmission Form.

The CGPS internal review committee will review and recommend a readmission decision. Applicants recommended for readmission will be granted readmission and notified by CGPS. All students not recommended for readmission by the CGPS internal review committee will be reviewed by the Trine University Graduate Council for a final decision.

Undergraduate Student Policy

Undergraduate students approved to take graduate courses are automatically on conditional status until they are fully admitted to graduate school. Undergraduate students whose graduate CGPA falls between 2.7 and 2.99 will be placed on academic probation until the end of the next semester. During this probationary period, students must raise their graduate CGPA to a 3.0.

If students are unable to achieve a 3.0 graduate CGPA by the end of their next semester or if their graduate CGPA falls below a 2.7 at any point, they will no longer be permitted to take graduate level courses until after completion of their bachelor's degree.
